Guyana has a new President, President Irfaan Ali

GECOM Guyana finally declares the President of the 2020 elections in Guyana.

President Irfaan Ali was declared the 9th Executive President of Guyana by the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) on August 2, 2020. He was immediately sworn in by the Chancellor (ag) of the Judiciary, Justice Yonette Cummings- Edwards.

President Irfaan Ali met with his staff at the Ministry of the Presidency (MOTP), where he assured them that his government’s intention is work in a unified manner and its expectation from staff is the highest possible standard, he also promises to foster teamwork and discourages disunity.

In the meeting with the staff at the Ministry of the Presidency, President Ali was accompanied by Prime Minister, Mark Phillips and Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and Governance, Gail Teixeira. The President stated, “Guyana requires the skills of all of us to work in a collective manner if we are to build a strong and sustainable country, a country that all of us can be proud of”. The President called on the staff to remain professional even as they deliver quality services to the Guyanese people. He also advised against operating in a way that will fuel distrust as this will not bode well for Guyana. “I am here to assure you that we are going to work in a unified manner in a way that will see every Guyanese benefit from the resources of this country…This office is the highest office in Guyana and therefore the workers are expected to deliver the highest level of service at the higher standards…I expect all to reignite that we have to operate at a high standard and set the bar for the rest of the public servants,” he stated.

President Ali also noted that as the PPP/C Administration transitions, there will be changes of approach, new and emerging areas of responsibility and, a shift in the plans and programs of the Government.
