Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity's Gamma Delta Sigma Chapter Honors Late Brother John Robert Lewis at Successful "Getting in Good Trouble Awards" Luncheon.

The Gamma Delta Sigma Chapter proudly congratulates this year's deserving recipients: Johnny "Magic" Hill, Dr. Jennifer Porter-Smith, Representative LaVon Patrice Bracy Davis and Russell Drake.

Orlando, FL - 6/28/2023- Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity's Gamma Delta Sigma Chapter, renowned for its commitment to community service and leadership, hosted a resounding success with its highly anticipated "Getting in Good Trouble Awards" luncheon on June 23, 2023. The event, held in honor of the esteemed late Brother John Robert Lewis, US Representative, -GA, celebrated outstanding individuals in the Central Florida community who have fearlessly worked towards effecting positive change in Youth Development, Social Action, Black Business Development, and Education. The Gamma Delta Sigma Chapter proudly congratulates this year's deserving recipients: Representative LaVon Patrice Bracy Davis, Russell Drake, Dr. Jennifer Porter-Smith, and Johnny "Magic" Hill.

The "Getting in Good Trouble Awards" luncheon, hosted by the esteemed WKMG News Anchor Crystal Moyer, welcomed a diverse audience of community leaders, distinguished guests, and supporters. The event was graced by a special address from Congressman Maxwell Frost, who shared inspiring insights and reflections on the remarkable legacy of Brother John Robert Lewis.

During the luncheon, the Gamma Delta Sigma Chapter took the opportunity to celebrate the achievements of the Stanley T. Mueller Scholarship recipients. We are thrilled to announce that fifty percent (50%) of the proceeds generated from the "Getting in Good Trouble Awards" luncheon will be allocated towards funding educational programs (25%) and youth developmental initiatives (25%) administered by the Orlando Sigmas. These programs include the prestigious Stanley T. Mueller Scholarship, a $2,000 general scholarship awarded to high school seniors from Orange, Osceola, and Seminole counties. Additionally, the Sigma Beta Club, a program focusing on cultivating wholesome values, leadership skills, and social and cultural awareness in boys aged 8 to 18, and an Orlando-based urban youth sports program employing football and cheerleading as early youth intervention strategies, will receive support. These initiatives positively impact the lives of young individuals and contribute to the betterment of the Central Florida community.

The remaining proceeds from the event will be dedicated to advancing the Gamma Delta Sigma Chapter's philanthropic endeavors and building reserves for future initiatives. These efforts include acquiring a Fraternity property in the Orlando area, which will establish a permanent physical presence for the chapter, enabling them to expand their positive impact on the community.

Reflecting on the successful event, Allie Braswell, Chairman of the Getting in Good Trouble Awards Luncheon, expressed his profound gratitude, stating, "Yesterday was a 'Fantabulous' day that commemorated the legacy of the late Honorable John Robert Lewis, U.S. Representative, during the Orlando Sigmas' 'Getting in Good Trouble Awards.' This event was established to acknowledge outstanding members of our community who, like our late Sigma Brother, are making a substantial impact. We were honored to present the Stanley T. Muller Scholarships to 10 deserving high school graduates from the Central Florida region, each receiving $2,000 towards their academic pursuits. These remarkable young achievers will be attending prestigious colleges and universities across the nation, from Seminole State College to Yale University."

Braswell extended his heartfelt appreciation to all attendees, including elected officials, corporate sponsors, Divine Nine organizations, and the community at large, emphasizing their invaluable contributions of time, talent, and resources. He acknowledged the collective effort that made the event a resounding success and expressed his gratitude for witnessing his vision materialize. Braswell concluded by encouraging interested parties to explore the various sponsorship opportunities available for future initiatives and expressed his eagerness to personally meet them in June 2023.
