It's the bike race which top dare devils bikers from around the world dream of participating, despite the risk of death due to open street course where there is always the potential of a dog running across the road. It's the Isle Of Man Tourist Trophy. The danger is not solely on the riders, in fact they wear protective gear that may save their life tho' could still suffer busted bones. The greater danger is to the spectators. When a bike goes down at 130MPH, all that solid metal out of control sometimes reaches into the crowd and damage occurs.
Since the inception in 1907 there have been 265 deaths and constant calls by some folks to end it, however as with any thing, the greater mass of the small country want the annual event to proceed because of the revenue derived, approximately £31.7m boost to economy. The event attracts thousands of tourists and spans 14 days from the arrival of riders through the trial runs, media day, and all that the public enjoys. Both the fans and the competitors know the possibility of death and that does not deter.
The Isle of Man is located in the Irish Sea between Great Britain and Ireland. The island is not part of the United Kingdom or European Union, but has the status of crown dependency, similar to Jersey and Guernsey, with an independent administration. Its inhabitants are British citizens.
